Laikipia Slaughterhouse: A Model of Efficiency for Export-Quality Meat Processing

Introduction

ISM Agrifarms is a key player in revolutionizing Kenya’s meat processing landscape: We leverage our expertise in the meat processing industry to deliver comprehensive solutions. Our strategic partnership with TEKNOTES: A leading Turkish manufacturer specializing in slaughterhouse equipment and processing facilities allows us to provide businesses with solutions tailored to their specific needs.

Meeting the Challenge: A High-Capacity Export-Focused Slaughterhouse

The Laikipia Slaughterhouse stands as a testament to our commitment. This facility, designed to process 50 cows and 300 goats daily for export, shows our ability to deliver high-capacity solutions that meet international standards.

To kickstart the project we mapped out dedicated zones for each stage of the process, ensuring optimal workflow and efficiency. This included separate areas for lairage (animal housing), slaughter, meat processing, waste management, staff facilities, and dispatch. We prioritized future expansion by recommending ample space.

Partnering with TEKNOTES, we provided cutting-edge automated machinery for streamlined operations. Our design incorporated provisions for solar energy, heat pumps, waste treatment and a biogas system promoting sustainability.

The processing area was designed to prioritize the preservation of meat quality. To minimize damage and ensure proper carcass handling, we equipped the processing area with the most suitable carcass splitting equipment. Furthermore, facilities were designed to maintain a strict temperature range of -2 to 4 degrees Celsius during chilling, a critical factor for export-ready meat. Finally, a dedicated distribution area was established to manage product flow and prevent unauthorized access to sensitive zones within the slaughterhouse.
